I have written, and write, verses on different subjects, including politics. Some are satiric and some, I hope, amusing. Feel free to comment.

Only a Half Full Cup

This morning fans everywhere looked at the tele to see a good game
and applaud the talent of some famous  name.
When they heard no more football battles were to be fought.
why were so many of them left feeling distraught?

The competition’s biggest shock was champion Spain’s early goodbye
the reason for which no-one was able to explain why.
The fans will no longer experience another thrill
like Germany’s humiliation of Brazil.

Poor Dilma’s expression was excruciating to see
while Angela looked on with delighted glee.
When the German team the final won
Cristina was glad she decided the game to shun.

Now they cannot accuse the referee of being blind
with decisions that made them think he was out of his mind.
They can no longer cheer their favourite stars,
or get another two-for-one in local bars.

If FIFA’s people want to attract much-needed friends
they must start the next World Cup the day after the last one ends.
