I have written, and write, verses on different subjects, including politics. Some are satiric and some, I hope, amusing. Feel free to comment.

The Empire Strikes Back

Today in Britain nobody minds the clouds
as the streets are filled with cheering crowds.
David Cameron’s cup runneth over
and he’s walking on a field of clover.

The country’s economic problems are put aside
and his promised benefit cuts not yet applied.
Health service complaints the P.M. ignores
as he continues to pore over every U.K. citizen’s Olympics scores.
Was it his advisers who made him aware
he should not yet another national holiday declare.
The three he had already granted
he must wish he had recanted.

The resulting fall in the country’s ability to produce
threatened its GDP to reduce.
While planning to slash the welfare rolls
he must think of other ways to please the proles.

Britain can boast about putting on one and then another great sports show
enabling those responsible their horns to blow.
While more people cannot pay their rents
David brags the country’s talent is organizing Olympic events.

But why the exaggerated elation
now gripping the whole United Kingdom’s population?
A man won a grand slam tennis game
thus ensuring his ever-lasting fame.

But who can explain why Andy Murray
has his fellow citizens in such a flurry?
It’s because the last time the Empire pulled off one of those tricks
was in the year nineteen-hundred-and-thirty six. *

*When there was still a British Empire.
